EVO Power expands battery energy storage solutions across Australia

Melbourne-based EVO Power, a leader in energy storage technology, offers turnkey energy storage solutions which are independently tested and certified by globally recognised testing labs and comply with the strictest Australian and international standards.

EVO Power’s flexible battery energy storage systems (BESS) have been designed to work in a range of different applications including grid support services such as Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) and energy arbitrage.

All EVO Power energy systems are equipped with advanced software and digital energy optimisation platforms, offering business customers and asset operators improved energy cost savings, energy efficiency, and flexibility.

Recently, EVO Power successfully supplied Australia’s first DC-coupled battery storage technology (CONNECT Series BESS) for Flow Power’s Berri Energy project in South Australia, which has the capacity to power up to 4,000 homes a year.

EVO Power’s CONNECT Series is engineered to amplify the revenue stream of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants by facilitating clipping recapture, time shifting of the stored energy and through grid support services such as FCAS.

Deepak Nayak, EVO Power’s Managing Director, said the CONNECT series was a game changer for either new or existing solar power plant owners, as it allowed for clipping recapture, time-of-use power purchase agreements, PV smoothing, and ancillary services such as FCAS.

He added: “The successful deployment of this novel technology is a testament to the value engineering offered by EVO Power across the utility-scale battery storage projects in Australia.”

Along with the Berri Energy project, EVO Power is deploying its energy storage solutions across the country, supporting renewable energy production and assisting in the transition to clean energy.

Demand for secure, energy storage systems is at an all-time high, with the number of renewable energy deployments expected to double in 2023, as well as an increased uptake of an estimated one million electric cars on the roads.

This promising environment led to EVO Power being contracted earlier in the year to supply its state-of-the-art AMP Series Medium Voltage BESS for six major projects by Ergon Energy, a subsidiary of Energy Queensland.

EVO Power will be responsible for the design, engineering, integration, supply and maintenance services – now underway and a target to complete all six by the mid-2024.

EVO Power’s AMP series was engineered with value, flexibility, and scalability in mind, and is supplied with leading warranties and local product and technical support.

The design of EVO Power’s AMP Series BESS facilitates grid support and ancillary services such as frequency regulation, black start, and various other functions, and is scalable from two megawatts up to five megawatts (and more) with various energy storage options.

Queensland’s government is targeting 70 per cent renewables by 2032, and EVO Power’s technology – being installed in the regions of Mundubbera and Rasmussen – brings the state one step closer in a safe and reliable way.

EVO Power’s Group Chief Executive Jamie Allen described the Energy Queensland partnership as a ‘coming of age’ for EVO Power.

He said: “Having previously focused on large commercial and industrial projects, we’ve now got our sights set firmly on utility-scale projects as well.

“With the recent opening of our offices in the USA, EVO Power has established a solid platform both locally in Australia and globally.

“The energy industry is evolving at a lighting pace, so there’s never been a better time to lead the pack with superior quality, reliable and sophisticated battery technology backed by local support.”
